Time is a Commodity
One of the scarcest commodities of the 21st century is time. Christians are just as afflicted by the time squeeze as anyone.
Finding time for Bible study, church attendance, service and the like, stretches their faith and patience. Is this the way God intends for us to live? Are we at the mercy of our generation’s hectic pace? Has the Lord provided instruction that can help us use and invest our time wisely?
Ephesians 5:15-17 says, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” This text in Ephesians divides people into two groups those who use their time wisely and those who don’t. Where do you fit? Are you redeeming the time?
How Do We Use Our Time? How Can I Serve God Better?
We May not Have Tomorrow
Time is so valuable. Time is the most precious commodity that we have.
Once our time is gone, there isn’t anything that we can do to recall that time. All that you have is today, and you need to use today to the very best advantage.
“In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2
Man-kind is prone to putting off until tomorrow what could be done today.
Are you asking yourself how can I serve God better? Do you realize that you need to be kinder? Read your Bible more? Pray More? Why not do these things now? If you know that you need a closer walk with God, do it now. Our lives are divided into the past, the present, and the future. We are not sure that we even have tomorrow. Solomon told us “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” Proverbs 27:1.
God Inhabits Eternity
We are currently living in our short-term home. We are all on a journey to our eternal home with God. God’s plan of salvation is for us to live in eternity with Him where there is no time that can be measured.
For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Isaiah 57:15
We have an eternal Father, we serve an eternal Lord, we have an eternal soul, and we are subject to receive an everlasting and eternal inheritance. We have an eternal and everlasting home.
“And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 25:46
