Test Your Understanding of God by Asking Yourself These 3 Questions

God wants you to lean on Him, and trust Him with all your problems, questions, and successes.

However, if you feel distant from God, then there are some good questions to ask yourself as a way to understand and better connect with Him. Keep reading, and ask yourself these three questions to test your understanding of God as a means of growing closer to Him.

1. Do I trust God’s plan and His Word fully?

If you have ever wondered if God hears your prayers, then you are not alone. This question can keep you from trusting God and create a wedge in your relationship with Him. God knows your every thought and desire. Psalms 139:1-6 The Bible tells us that.

As author Kyle Butt maintains , “Sometimes [believers] think [the Bible] cannot be understood, other times they do not read it; and on occasion they try to twist it to fit their lives. How can we understand the Bible and avoid these pitfalls? By obeying the words of Paul to the young preacher Timothy when he said: ‘Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth.’ (2 Timothy 2:15).”

Reading the Bible is the best way to understand God’s plan for you, realize His power, and learn to trust Him wholly. Author Eric Lyons elaborates , saying readers of the Bible need only an open heart to learn “some foundational, fundamental truths about the Bible itself” to understand scripture best.

As you read God’s Word, you can further test your understanding of God through an online Bible class or devotional. These additional tools will help you grow deeper in your understanding of the Bible and God.

2. Do I lead by example in my faith?

As Dr. Martin Luther King said , “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” How do you react when times get difficult?

Do you lean on faith, and trust in God? Do you pray for healing or resolution for issues presented in your life? Do you seek the council and community of fellow Christians?

These attributes point to a faithful servant in God’s kingdom. It can be easier to maintain faith when life is going well. How we react when things get difficult, however, sets an example for others. It is easy to blame God for unfortunate circumstances, but in truth, He only allows challenging periods in our lives so that we draw closer to Him and build character.

Research from Dr. J Dudley Woodberry at Fuller Theological Seminary showed that the main reason Muslims convert to Christianity is based on the “lifestyle of Christians among them.” This is an astounding and powerful call to lead by example in your faith, and pursue a Godly lifestyle.

You should make time for daily devotion in Bible study and prayer regardless of how busy your schedule may be. To test your understanding of God, you should talk about His Word often, and feel a desire to teach others. You may be the closest thing to a minister in your coworker or acquaintance’s life, so lead faithfully by example.

3. Do I renounce sin fervently?

One way to grow closer to God is by recognizing areas of sin in your life and turning away from them.

Not only does God hear your prayers,  but He also holds dearly those who ask Him to forgive their sins. 1 John 1:9 Pray for forgiveness for your faults and mistakes and for the strength to leave behind sinful behavior. James 5:16

God loves you as His child. As mothers and fathers know, parents want their children to prosper and live full, healthy lives. God wants that for you. You should renounce your sinful ways, pursue compassion, and help others.
